JORDAN MESSEROLE | SONGWRITER

So, you want to host a house concert?

Thanks for being interested in hosting a house concert at your place. They are sort of the life blood for working, independent songwriters. It'll give me a chance to tell stories, share songs, and connect with the audience in a much more meaningful way and in the comfort of your home. Plus, you get the benefit of being the cool person in your family, friend group, or on your block, that knows a professional songwriter. That might mean something?

Here is some basic information to start with:

A house concert is exactly what it sounds like: a concert in your house. We can set up in whichever space you'd like. We could do it in one of the rooms like you see pictures below, or in your backyard if timing allows us to be outside. The more creative the "stage" the better.

What do I bring to the table?
- I will provide all my own gear. Set up & tear down is done by me about 60 minutes prior to guests arriving. I need little more than a few square feet of space and a plug in.

- I can provide you with marketing material and promotion if you'd like to make it a public event, but the private events within your group are great options too.

- Of course, there will be my performance as well. With a more focused audience I've found it best to be 90 minutes straight or a two hour show with a small intermission. This performance will include me telling the stories behind how the songs came to be, a few jokes here and there, and the songs themselves. However, we can make times fit whatever time frame you'd like.

What are you on the hook for?
- You, or your guests, would be responsible for providing seating. What I've seen is hosts utilizing kitchen & dining room chairs, as well as living room furniture, coupled with attendees bringing their favorite camp chair, bean bag, or picnic blanket.

- Generally, it's a bit of a pot luck situation with food and drinks. Hosts will normally provide a selection of drinks and attendees will bring some sort of snack to share. It's usually just snacks and drinks. But, it could also be a BYOB event with no food. Depends on timing and what you think your friends & family would want to do.

- Usually, when touring, or at least on a short run far from home, it includes a place to crash, but I will likely be heading home after the show is over. I'd hate to wear out my welcome.

Outside of those things, you wouldn't, necessarily, have a financial obligation in this. That would fall to the guests that come to the show. It's usually a set ticket price or a minimum donation, say $20ish, to get in. This is not wasted money. You and your guests will be getting a professional performance from a 15 year veteran songwriter. I'll also be selling merchandise to try and make it a financially viable operation.

If you think you could trick 20-30 friends or family members to exchange their hard earned money for a night of jokes and music, this event just might be for you.

Fill out this form to start the process. I look forward to talking with you.
